To get japanese symbols works (in Arch linux) may help this command:
sudo pacman -S noto-fonts noto-fonts-cjk noto-fonts-emoji ttf-dejavu ttf-liberation ttf-ms-fonts
and
sudo fc-cache -fv
and restart terminal
