Data cut-off when using two eSIMS on my iPhone 16 Pro Max

Hi,

This issue have bothered me for some time now, and I feel I have tried anything possible to solve it, including switching my cellular operators for both my phone numbers.

I have two subscriptions, one for a Hungarian phone number and another for a Danish phone number (am an expat living in Hungary). Both subscriptions are on my phone as eSim's, both are active and data switching is turned on for both. My phone is an unlocked iPhone 16 Pro Max.

My problem is, that I just cannot have a phone call using cellular data, I get cut off all the time - it doesn't matter which app I use (Whatsapp, Messenger ETC). I don't think the data cut-off is just for phone calls, I think it is a general thing, I just realise it when on a call. But loading a webpage also can be delayed until it loads in an instance. So I tent to believe it is general issue.

I have literally tried everything. Apple points me to my cellular provider, however I have gone through painstakingly long troubleshooting with both my providers to try to isolate the issue - there doesn't seem to be one (in their end at least). Also as soon as I disable one of the eSims (doesn't matter which) the problem dissapears. As a result I changed both suppliers but the problem persists - so I really do not think it is an issue with my cellular suppliers.

As mentioned above, for troubleshooting, I have tried to delete one of the eSims, and then the problem disappears instantly, but comes back as soon as I enable my other eSim. It is the same issue no matter what eSim I use for data, I get cut off when both eSim's are active and disabling either result in no issues what so ever.

I have tried to reset me network setting, restarting the phone ETC.

I have been in touch with apple support, who are generally quick at pointing their fingers at my cellular providers, but after having the same problem after changing both cellular suppliers, meaning the issue persists with 4 different suppliers, I believe the issue lies with Apple.

So first of all, does any of you have two working eSims from two different suppliers in your phone and experience no issues with your data connection (as mentioned it typically shows up when having calls on the cellular data connection)?

And is there someone who have had the same issue as me who managed to find a solution?

I have as you can imagine from the above spent hours and hours on this, and this is basically my last try before selling my phone and buying Samsung or some other Android driven brand (without knowing if this will solve my issue, but what else can I do)...

Thanks!

Am no expert in this area, yet your post to the community deserves some response.

Wondering if you have things set-up the way Apple suggests. If you haven't already seen or followed the suggestions in Apple support's online article:See: Using Dual SIM with an eSIM - Apple Support for tips:

Eg: says:

"How can you use Dual SIM?

  • Use one number for business and another number for personal calls.
  • Add a local data plan when you're travelling outside the country or region.
  • Have separate voice and data plans.

Both your phone numbers can make and receive voice and FaceTime calls and send and receive messages using iMessage, SMS and MMS.2

Your iPhone can use one cellular data network at a time."

If not already familiar with that article: There are many more details worth a careful check in the above article.

There is also a "trouble-shooting article (link below) about Dual SIM:

If Dual SIM with eSIM isn't working on your iPhone - Apple Support

Eg: says:

"Find out how to fix any issues you may encounter when using Dual SIM with your iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR or a later model that features a nano-SIM card and an eSIM or two eSIMs"

More details in the above article.

As we are all Apple users, like yourself, in the community, we have no access to records of calls, online chat, and web-form feedback that Apple receives. Unless others with similar experiences (if there are any) reply to you here, we have no way of knowing for sure. Many of us have problems along the way, as we learn by experience.

Seems the issue has more to do with the two eSIMS, and the way they are set-up and in use, rather than whichever hardware or software the two eSIMs are in use with. I could be wrong.
